Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia in Man Due to Capsulated Bacilli
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper it is my purpose to consider only those cases of septi.c~emia accompanied by hmmorrhages into the skin, the serous membranes, and usually into the liver, spleen, kidney, heart, stomach and intestines in which capsulated bacilli have been found as the only, or, at least, the most numerous and important micro-organisms present. These restrictions remove from our consideration cases of primary septicmmia with hmmorrhages, as well as the numerous instances of secondary hsemorrhagic septicmmia occurring in variola, typhoid ~ever, :scarlatina, rheumatism, measles, tuberculosis, endocarditis, nephritis, puerperal fever, omphalitis, and the like, due for the most part to streptococci, staphylococci, or various bacilli, examples of which have been reported by Xlebs (16), Hlava (14), ]3ab~s (2), ~lartin de Gimard (19), Claisse (9), Legendre and Claisse (18), Tavel and de Quervain (21), Kamen (15), Neumann (20) and others. The so-called purpura anthracosa and purpura scorbutica are also, of course, excluded.

1. The sera of twenty-six individuals who carried tetanus bacilli in their digestive tracts all contained appreciable amounts of antitoxin. 2. The sera of thirty individuals in whose stools no tetanus-like organisms were found were, with two exceptions, free from tetanus antitoxin. 3. Although we have been unable to measure accurately the antitoxin content of these human carriers of tetanus bac...

The epidemiology of invasive Haemophilus infections has changed and the number of cases of intra-abdominal and hepatobiliary ...
